Momentary Favorites: Silicone Bakeware

Wedding registries are amazing and wonderful things.  They’re like giant wish lists for things you don’t know if you need, and then, after you get all that stuff, you never use half of it.

One thing that I registered for that I didn’t know if I would ever use was silicone bakeware.  Andrew thought it was cool because it was floppy.  I thought it was cool because it was light and squishy.  Here in the cottage we don’t have much space for storage, so being able to squish up my baking pans was appealing.  But, I never thought I would never be able to live without it.

I received two 6-cup muffin pans, 2 cake pans, and 2 bread pans- all in pretty red silicone.  You wanna know a secret??  Aside from cookie sheets, I haven’t used any of my other bakeware.

My favorite things:
1. It cleans up so well!  You know how when you bake bread, and don’t grease the pan in every tiny little niche, some bread will get baked on that dull silver pan and it takes you 3 months, a box of baking soda and three sponges to get it off?  Yeah, been there, scrubbed that.  I don’t even grease my pans and they come perfectly clean every time.  And that greasing that I don’t do doesn’t discolor my beautiful scarlet pans.  They look the same as the day I popped them out of the box.

IMG_25962. Food bakes thoroughly.  We love zucchini bread around here, so I use my pans almost every week.  I’ve also made a lot of muffins, and 2 cakes with them and I have never had a problem with my food baking unevenly or burning.

3.  Food comes out cleanly.  No more using a butter knife to get the cakes to come out in one piece.  I just turn my pan over, tap on the top a little, and out pops my baked goods.  How easy is that?!?  It’s pretty much amazing.

4. As I already mentioned, they’re squishy!  Finding Nemo, anyone??  They will fit anywhere you stuff them, and then they’ll pop right back into shape!  Wish I could get into shape as easily….

5.  And last, but certainly not least: they’re safe.  Oven, microwave, dishwasher (you were waiting for that one weren’t you?), fridge, freezer- wherever you want to stick these things, you can.

I wish I could invite all of you over to my house to try it- you would toss out the glass, metal, and all other pans out the window in a second.  Except please don’t- that would be littering.  But our little cottage won’t hold all of you.  So do the next best thing.  Go here and try some for yourself.  And then call me and tell me how much extra time you have because you don’t have to scrub baked-on gunk off of pans.
